How To Make Sourdough Starter From Scratch (Day 1)

Several weeks before the feast of Nativity of Our Lord (Christmas) Saints Peter and Paul Church has launched a Soup Kitchen aimed on helping those in need in our neighborhood. To fund this ministry I have decided to sell my sourdough bread. To my big surprise the response was great! One loaf of my bread even sold for $100! But the most surprising was the generosity of our parishioners and friends of the parish. The money from the bread sale as of today brought only small fraction of funds needed to run our Soup Kitchen. And while I will still continue to bake my bread, I know that your love, sacrifice and vision for our parish will be responsible in the end for our success.

Going back to the Sourdough Bread. About a year ago I hosted series of classes on sourdough bread. We made sourdough bread, pancakes and even bagels. Many have asked if I would consider having the classes again. The answer is yes, but not right away. Not until March for sure. I am however in the process of making a few videos, and if you up for it, follow along and you may learn a thing or two. :)

So here is my first video on making the sourdough starter. If you have any questions use he comment box bellow, I will try to answer your questions as soon as I can.

This? video is very concise and easy to flloow. I am new to bread making and would like to make this bread. But spelt flour is not available where I live. Could you suggest an optional flour which might possibly replace spelt flour?

Francisco, to make sourdough starter you do not need spelt flour. You can make it with regular bread flour.
