When in 2018, Deutsche Welle published an article in which they questioned whether or not Russia has a problem with the “Orthodox Taliban,” – I did not know what to think of it. Was that article distasteful? Was the author right? Was it just a hit piece? That was then. Today I think of Deutsche Welle’s article in a completely different light as I am questioning whether or not there is an “Orthodox Taliban” problem, but not in Russia – do we have that problem here in the United States of America. To me, the answer to this question is obvious – of course, we have that problem. However, the framing of this question needs to be in light of Communism, Stalinism, Putinism, and Rashism. “Taliban” will surely confuse the masses, and of course, no one relishing any of the above-mentioned “isms” should pretend to have anything in common with Orthodox Christianity – hence the title of the article has a “stroke” through the words “Orthodox Taliban.”
I used to think that I agreed with the coverage of many topics covered by Monomakhos Blog. Then came February 24, 2022, and I began to pay closer attention to their coverage of Ukraine in general, but in particular to their mindlessly repeating the kremlin propaganda regarding putin’s invasion of Ukraine. This made me realize that Monomakhos has indeed become a cradle of all these “isms”. On the other hand, I understand that the coverage of the war against Ukraine by Monomakhos might be just that – kremlin propaganda. In this case, I should congratulate the authors – well done!
It saddens me personally to find this amount of hate against Ukrainian people of all places on an “Orthodox blog”.
None of these “isms” have a place in the thinking of an Orthodox Christian. The praise of these “isms” on an Orthodox blog boils my blood – but such is the price of the freedom of speech! Isn’t it? That is my opinion, how about yours?
